Can Ecological Sustainability Be Enforced?
(Start of draft.)

Ecologically sustainable humanity is very slow in coming, if it really is coming at all--there are still no encouraging statistics available. The tide has not started turning yet.

Why is this so?

During the Tokugawa period in Japan the depletion of natural resourced forced the government to very profound ways of conserving those; this happened in a totalitarian regime--is this a way that we will be forced to employ in the not so distant future?
